My brother and sis in law gave us a mushroom kit for the girls to grow for homeschooling. They have been growing super quick and are amazing to watch. They are oyster mushrooms from http://www.rootmushroom.com
We went out to eat last weekend and it was an amazing Italian place in downtown independence. This place was so cute and the food was amazing. It was Cafe Verona. They have love ❤️ locks all over there entry way. It was really pretty. Some had couples names engraved on them. So for food I got prosciutto wrapped shrimp 🍤 with a tomato basil polenta and asparagus with a sauce! My hubby got a rotini pasta with a vodka sauce and mushrooms 🍄 My sis and bro in law got seafood pasta 🍝 Kids of corse got grilled cheese, fries and cheese sticks, lol. We also got calamari that was amazing.
Yogurtini was on the street before Cafe Verona and it was great for dessert. You pick any flavor frozen yogurt 🍦 and then pick from a million toppings 🍒
Since we are living in Independence MO we went to the pioneer trails museum. I remember learning about the Oregon trail, California trail and Santa Fe trail when I was a child so I thought it would be a great learning experience for the girls. I learned why all the trails started here in Independence it was because this was the last westward town all the way till their destinations in Oregon, California or Santa Fe which took 4-6 months to walk, ride a horse or sit in a wagon. I bought a book in the gift shop that was a page turner. I read it in a few days and recommended it to anyone probably 3rd grade and up for more info on the trails. It was the Donner party I read about called All We Left Behind. It was very interesting to learn how they actually traveled and mistakes that were made ending them up stuck in the snowy mountains for months starving.
We had some family come down that weekend so the girls went swimming in their hotel pool and they played all day.
Here is a sweet little gem we found in coffeyville KS. It’s called Garden Thyme tea room and they have the yummiest lunch! It’s in a old house and all the rooms are themed and cute! The first time we went the girls got grilled cheese and tomato soup. I got the seasonal grilled cheese with wild rice soup. Both came with veggie chips and a pickle. This grilled cheese was amazing. It had cheddar, sliced apples and apple butter in it! My youngest daughter actually ate all my wild rice soup so I took her yummy creamy tomato soup. Lol. The second time we went was for Gracie’s 9th birthday and we did the High Tea. They served us a yummy gingerbread tea in real tea cups and saucers and then we got a huge tower of yummy little sandwiches and desserts. It was a great place to go!We also we to the Oklahoma state fair. It was huge with every ride and food you can think of. We loved the nursery building where you went it and saw baby animals being born all day! It was amazing. Kinsley almost ordered her cheese pizza with scorpions on it because we thought it was a joke but nope. They really put those and crickets and worms on pizza! We played some games, won some toys and check out the exhibits. But didn’t ride any rides.
We are currently learning about South America rain forest so we made some terrariums with kits we got for Christmas! Grace got a glow in the dark one with cute little mushroom and bunny. Came with the dirt, water bottle, sand, pebbles, and wheat grass and chia seeds. Kinsley got a troll one with a little poppy house and doll. Hers only came with that so we dug up some dirt and split Gracie’s seeds. Now just waiting for it to grow!
In these two photos are our lettuce we regrow with our romain lettuce bottoms. We just put in water and they regrow! And the barrel cactus I’ve had for four years. Grace and her father dug it up in Texas for Mother’s Day! It had one barrel and now has over ten. Blooms once a year for one day. Last year it was on the day my brother and sister in law got married. It’s flowers are a Bright purple pink color!
